2012 Membership fee: $20*
What happens with your membership dollars?
Your $20 membership fee is used for projects at four levels: national, provincial, diocesan and parish.
$13 is sent to the National Council
$3 is sent to the Provincial Council
$3 is sent to the Diocesan Council
$1 is used by our Parish League for projects and expenses throughout the year.
Our league is part of the Hamilton Diocese with members in 103 parishes across our diocese.
How to join
Although our membership drive is in January, you may join our League at anytime throughout the year. It's never too late to join or to renew your membership. Simply place your $20 membership fee in an envelope clearly marked CWL membership (membership envelopes can be found on our bulletin board at the tower entrance) and drop it in the collection basket during mass. Or better yet, bring it to a meeting.
The general meeting is held on the fourth Tuesday of each month*. Our general meetings are open to all League members and women 16 years of age and older who are interested in becoming a member. See
the Parish Calendar for exact meeting dates and times.
*No meetings are held in June, July, August or December.
We continue to support of our foster child in Guatemala, Lesly Georjina Rax, through CHALICE: Christian Child Care International. Along with the yearly fee, we also send Lesly birthday, Easter, and Christmas cards. This is our eighth year supporting Lesly and over the years we have enjoyed letters and pictures from her. When we began this project we understood it was a long-term commitment and our members continue to agree that this is an important project for us to support. You can see a picture of Lesly on our bulletin board at the bottom of the tower entrance, this is updated yearly.
Our projects are successful because of the support from our parishioners.
Stamps
A tin to collect cancelled stamps can be found at the back of the church. The stamps are sent to Development and Peace (http://www.devp.org) and they sell the stamps to stamp collectors. The proceeds help fund development projects in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Pneumonia vests
Members, and parishioners, continue to knit pneumonia vests for Dr. Simone, founder of Food for Children. We have supported this project since 2004 and each year send approximately 100 vests to Dr. Simone who then sends them to third world countries to help keep children warm at night. The pattern is simple and uses knitting worsted weight wool. The vest can be knit or crochet using a plain knit stitch or a pattern if desired. For a copy of the pattern contact
Linda Pandzich.
Cookbook
St. Joseph's Parish cookbook is filled with tried and true recipes from our parishioners. At $5 it makes a nice addition to our cookbook collection or a great gift for a friend. Copies are available by calling Vivian Walsh at 905-528-8113.
